Maudlin Retrospective
No, I'm not talking about a mannish old woman looking back at you. (Try and follow that obscure and ancient logic leap)
But it is that time of year, when for some reason we all feel the need to look back at the past arbitrarily created time span and celebrate the joys, wistfully dream of a chance to change mistakes and burnish hopes for the next year.
So...
Looking back it proved true that "Sex Sells". We had more audience members than ever before, though strangely enough the usual "theatre crowd" opted out of our sexy season. How do I know? because I tend to be the guy who works the door. because we get to meet and know all of our intimate audience. So, much like the truance officer I know when you're playing hookey and I'm always looking for naughty little school girls. Oops, I shouldn't ave said that. (Just a little Harry Potter reference for y'all.)
Regardless of who was there and who wasn't, I think I can safely say that this last year has been a lot of fun. We've added a number of new ensemble members with a passion for giving themselves and audiences something different to enjoy. We also launched our What IF? Society and found out that there were a few folks out there that enjoy what we do as much as we enjoy doing it.
This year we also celebrated another ensemble marriage as Andy and MaryAnn finally tied the not. Man, we were getting tired of waiting. Though it was bittersweet as it was yet another reminder that they had to head back to PA. We're definitely thrilled for them, but we miss their help, their energy and most of all, their them. The hazards of working with friends and creating an ensemble is that invariably life takes them on to something new and you're left wondering how to refill that warm and wonderful space they've filled for so long.
As to reflecting on mistakes...
BAH!
The only thing mistakes are is a chance for a future do-over. None were insurmountable and most were only temporary distractions.
Now for the future...
Please, please, no drum roll. That is so cliche. I mean really does everyone anticipate things a drum roll? I think not. In fact, I think we'll talk about the future in the future.
So adieu, dos vidonya and good bye.
